We Were Liars by E. Lockhart (Emily Jenkins), is a book following Cadence Eastman and the wealthy Sinclair Family mainly on their summer island- Beechwood Island.
It is a critically acclaimed book but I would only give it 4 stars. ✰✰✰✰. Age rating is probably 12+ as it is a Young Adult book.
I found the plot intriguing, it doesn't follow perhaps a traditional story style but it pulls you into Cadence's life, her family, and her memories. Maybe the jumbled plot left me feeling unresolved but that seems to be a feature of the book. It follows Cadence's experiences how she experiences them and not necessarily in a plot arc. I would still encourage you to read this book - here is an extract from the first page
'WELCOME TO THE beautiful Sinclair family.
No one is a criminal.
No one is an addict.
No one is a failure.'
'A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
The truth.' - Good Reads
This is a heartbreakingly beautiful book about family, grievances, the result of our actions, and more... I love how the author describes people's characters and life in general.
Great review Iman!
Sounds intriguing. Do share more about the plot please unless that would be a huge spoiler
