The Raven Cycle Series

Updated: Feb 6, 2022

This is another YA series, im conflicted on the one hand it certainly isn’t the most engaging at times and the plot can be almost ambiguous with no final outcomes if that makes sense so it can be hard to get through, on the other hand, it has really engaging parts with likeable and developed characters, enviable friendships and settings, and well-written action scenes. I have come to the conclusion that the characters themselves and the fandom material is better than the actual book. Blue Sargent is the only non-psychic in her family 'She wasn't interested in telling other people's futures. She was interested in going out and finding her own.' She would stay away from boys even if every psychic in her family agreed the boy she kissed would die, and she would stay away from pretentious Raven Boys regardless. But when she meets a soon-to-be-dead Aligbony boy at St Mark's Eve she is thrust into a world of magic, ley lines and adventure. It has themes of magic, prophecy and found family, My main fault is that although the books have some good bits they're overall kind of predictable and not that good. Blue, Lily, Lily, Blue has little to no plot apart from ✨foreshadowing✨. But the Raven King mostly makes up for that. In conclusion, now I have finished the series- I give it 3.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐1/2. Age rating - 10+
