Skulduggery Pleasant has just enough sci-fi fantasy and mystery for a rainy day, a story that represents the teenage experience and hopefully the skeleton detective experience. Those are the two main characters, 13 year old Stephanie/Valkyrie and the living breathing skeleton Skulduggery Pleasant. My only complaint is that they made the main characters name so long! It follows their adventures fighting villains and banter in a world with secret magic sorcerers and a token snooty magic high council. It reminds me of Nevermoor in that it’s one of the books I love because of its pretty realistic magical ness with the right amount of backstory and it’s own magical myths. It is a long series, I am only halfway through the second book. The first book follows Stephanie’s uncle who in his death seems to be a much more interesting person than Stephanie thought…
